Art and hoons arm in arm, “the motor show mk2” brings out the motor head within the contemporary art scene.

“The motor show mk2” at Yarra Sculpture Gallery, is a bi-annial exhibition highlighting the diversity with which artists from a broad range of disciplines respond to the theme of the motor.

There is frequent criticism that contemporary art is difficult and inaccessible. The Motor Show mk2 debunks this notion by referencing a theme that is close to everyone’s heart, the artists responding with images and objects for the viewer to reflect upon and ponder. Not surprisingly, the contributions from 32 artists to the motor show mk2 have created an exhibition of art works varying from the monumental to the intimate, from the playful to sombre reflection, from the figurative to the abstract.

The motor show will be one of the first shows to be held in the new space at Yarra Sculpture Gallery. This large un-renovated warehouse has the feel of a “found space’ and allows for a number of the participating artists to work site specifically, with spaces for individual artists to install works including digital installation.

The opening itself will be an extraordinary event bringing together contemporary art and icons we associate with automobile culture. The event will include performance extending beyond the boundaries of the gallery with street displays of show cars and Hot Rods.
